This page provides an introduction on how to launch a PNYV Radio or Television Program.
Some examples:
PNYV's Worldwide Information Cinema lists avantgarde radio & tv programs opening access to important information, knowledge and solutions for positive changemaking.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LAUNCHING A YOUTH-LED RADIO OR TELEVISION PROGRAMME?
You can take the driver's seat in introducing a new culture of meaningful media that transfer important knowledge to the population.
If you partner with PNYV, you can use all our articles, including audio and video clip interviews with tidal wave thinkers of our times.
Reaching out to People
A Radio or TV program can reach a lot of people!
Radio Shows also open new opportunities in rural areas in developing countries.
In cities, you can start programs on free community-, university and school stations.
Meeting People
A radio or tv program puts you in touch with all the positive local actors and changemakers visiting your city for international conferences. You will meet decision-makers at eye-level and gain precious insights. You will find a lot of friends, allies, examples and teachers in your quest for positive change.
Your Style and Format
PNYV Shows can be lively and improvised. You do not have to follow the stiff news show format. You can go as far as developing a popular youth culture 'cult radio program'! With top level content!
Youth & Schools in the Driver's Seat of Innovation
Why not start such a group in school and spread to other schools?
PNYV Shows can invite for youth participation through local school boards, because they have exceptionally high educational value.
HOW CAN I LAUNCH A POSITIVE NEWS RADIO OR TV PROGRAMME?
First of all: explore your territory! Know the positive actors and places on site. A Treasure Map is a very good way of visualising and collecting your 'content providers', your friends and allies in your undertaking. You can do it as a public group project, in class on just in your team. Then, study a lot of the materials accessible through PNYV: articles, KnowLounge entries, interviews, Worldwide Multimedia Cinema. Audio & Video clips from around the world offer superb materials for your show!
For the technical part, there is not that much you need to know. It is kind of informal, common sense, spirit and patient technical commitment are the main ingredients.
- You should have at least one spirited, eloquent speaker on the team, 'whose personality radiates enthusiasm, competence and vibrations of positive change'. This can evolve with experience but must always be a priority aim.
- You must be a life-long, open-minded learner. Positive change is based on sound action integrating the public. Neither lame theorists, entrenched ideologists, frustrated fighters or dreamy prophets make a Positive News journalist.
- You need free access to a radio or tv station. This can be a community-radio, university radio, school radio. Contact the potential partners in your area.
- You need free equipment in addition to your own. A one-chip digital camera is fine, a clip-on microphone for still interviews, a good microphone for action radio interviews.
- For a TV program, you need some technical skills. Basic camera skills are fine. A course about fine-tuning the filming technique is useful, and can be acquired in free courses in youth media clubs. An introduction to the basic functions of a film editing software is of course useful. You do not need to acquire all the specialist skills for basic TV. The main thing is patience and time, because editing takes time. Prepare an edition before arranging a screening date. Otherwise, you may miss the deadline!
- You must have a fair amount of free time, long-term. You can start with only one show, sure. But the long-term option makes it more exciting. Maybe start with a monthly program. Think ahead, so your school schedule does not squeeze your time in the future. It is uncomfortable not to be able to deliver what you promised or planned.
- Your materials can be available long-term on the internet. Your work will thus be available and public long-term, so it has high value!
You see, it is kind of informal, common sense, spirit and patient technical commitment are the main ingredients.
