WORLD FUTURE SCHOOL : ONLINE LEARNSCAPE
The World Future School Online Learnscape is conceived as an illustrated Online Learning Environment, aiming at making the worldwide sustainability movement visible and applicable in schools and for the individual learner.
It takes up the idea of a permanent global convention where people inspired by the idea of positive change can 'meet' recognised visionaries, changemakers and pacemaking organisations and good practice projects exhibitions to listen and learn about their way of thinking, their strategies and projects.
Spending a year in such an environment would be the very best opportunity for sustainability learning!
In real life, such conventions are - unfortunately - limited by factors of finance, accessibility and time. The multimedia virtual world has other limitations but a lot of key issues concerning access and sharing of information, knowledge and insights and personal encounter in audio and video are possible. The WFS aims to make the best possible available.
The particular strength of this approach is to use graphical navigation like we know it from real life environments for moving between content areas. It helps our imagination and understanding and memorisation.
PNYV is the first activated element of the WFS!
It is situated in the "Youth Camp"'s "Worldwide Information Cinema". And it carries a lot of content from various WFS elements, just in a different non-graphical manner.
The World Future School project was first officially presented during the "International Video Conference on the Implementation of Global Sustainability Education" as part of the EWOC Evolution of World Order Conference 2004 in October. The presentation included the introduction of the ISLE concept for Informal Sustainability Learning Environments and of PNYV ! Positive News + Youth Views! E-Zine. The WFS, ISLEs and PNYV were conceived and designed by Eric Nicolas Schneider in 2004.
